R.I.P Elizabeth Taylor

Today I was genuinely saddened to learn of the passing of one of my ultimate heroines, Dame Elizabeth Taylor. I'm spending the night watching Giant and Butterfield 8 and wishing there were more hours in the day so that I could add Suddenly Last Summer, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, A Place in the Sun and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof to my movie marathon. But a girl's got to sleep. Here's a collection of some of my favourite images of Liz...

It's important that Elizabeth is remembered not only as one of the most beautiful women of all time, but as a great talent and a generous and loyal philanthropist particularly with regard to her tireless support of gay rights and AIDS charities.

Muffy

I wish to fuck I looked like Liz Renay.

Black Swan

Just got back from seeing Black Swan at the GFT. My thoughts, when I was able to formulate some after shrieking like a madwoman at Aronofsky's insane (and over the top) jumpy bits, were mainly about:

- Natalie Portman's incredible Black/White Swan make-up.... and how I hope Pixiwoo do a tutorial soon.

- Natalie Portman's incredible ballet body. Apparently she lost 20 lbs training for the part. How the hell did she even have 20 lbs going spare?? I, on the other hand, need to book some dance classes A.S.A.P.

I'm a sucker for bony shoulders and collarbones.

As the 'virginal' White Swan.

Portman succeeding in making 'Madonna arms' desirable.

Reckon we'll be seeing a trend in feathered headwear?

Finally, the gorgeous movie poster...

Bygone Beauty

Just discovered a wonderful blog called Beauty is a Thing of the Past filled with countless magazine clippings from the 1930s and 1940s providing tips on styling your hair and creating the perfect make-up look. I'm obsessed with stuff like this, even if I don't always have the time to sit and painstakingly pin curl my whole head.

Dreaming of Daphne

I just posted about Daphne Guinness' latest charitable endeavour over on my other blog, and while continuing my stalking session I came across this beautiful photo set by Bryan Adams (yes, that one) for Zoo magazine (not that one). Among them are some of my favourite images of the great lady. In images that recall those by Man Ray and the silvery sparkly portraits of Cecil Beaton, Adams succeeds in capturing Guinness as a surrealist heroine (in one image she is seen drinking out of a Meret Oppenheim-style fur teacup) of both the past and the future.

So I haven't updated in nearly a month, which is terrible. Reason being, I started back at uni 2 weeks ago and it has been relentless. Final year is a bitch, but in a nice way. The kind of bitch that will fuck you then make you a delicious breakfast so it's okay.
Last week I styled a fashion shoot for the Glasgow Guardian newspaper which has just gone to print - pick up your copy from around Glasgow Uni campus. I'll be getting the final images emailed through from the photographer soon so they'll be getting posted up here, no doubt.
We're doing the next one in a couple of weeks for the Halloween issue, can't wait!
Elsewhere in my world of fashion/beauty, I discovered the amazing Estee Lauder Maximum Cover Camouflage Make-Up (courtesy of the lovely Claire). It is made for covering scars, birthmarks and major blemishes, so it does a pretty decent job of covering up my crap skin days. Definitely worth the £25 price tag!

I just wish I'd discovered it 5 years ago...

Take a Walk on the Wild Side

This weekend I'm going to an Andy Warhol's Factory themed birthday party. I'll be dressed as Candy Darling, one of my favourite Warhol Superstars...

I never realised that she had brown eyes, unless this is a trick of the camera... I'll have to look up more colour photos to check. I ordered blue contact lenses partly for this occasion, partly to aid my day-to-day Liz Taylor impersonations, and partly out of curiosity (my eyes are dark brown/hazel).

I'm still impatiently awaiting the release of the Candy documentary film, Beautiful Darling, which I'm sure I've mentioned before. I can't remember when it is supposed to be coming out. Does anyone know what's going on?

Anyway, I'll definitely post photos of my transformation and of the other party folk. xx

Signorina

I am half-asleep and just about to log off and crash out, but I HAVE to share this image with y'all first.

It's by Ellen von Unwerth, who takes THE most sexy, striking photographs of women. Also contributing to the brilliance of this image are the Prada eyebrow glasses which I covet like a bitch. Ditto the model's poofy hair and feline make-up.

Good morning little schoolgirl...

I found this beautiful photo on Fashion Copious, a wonderful site full of all things fashion.

I love the model's hair and make-up, and the subdued nostalgia of the colours and light. I'll be using this, as well as the other shots in the set, as inspiration for my own fashion/art photography.

I'll no doubt be posting more amazing editorials as found on FC, I can literally spend hours just trawling through images and rediscovering the urge to hit the gym...

To-day's Look.

Going for a vaguely Barbie look today...

Should probably have put fake eyelashes on, but it was really windy and rainy outside & it wouldn't have been wise.
