Ladies and Gentlemen...

The other evening, Monorail film club showed Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains (Lou Adler, 1981) at the GFT. Starring Diane Lane (The Outsiders, Rumble Fish), Laura Dern (Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart), Ray Winstone (Scum, Sexy Beast) - as well as Steve Jones and Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols and The Clash's Paul Simonon - it tells the story of 3 teenage girls who, dissatisfied with their lives, start a punk band called The Stains who carry the motto "We Don't Put Out!".
Lead character Corrine Burn's costumes and hairstyle, which quickly become slavishly imitated by the band's legion of female fans calling themselves 'Skunks', are but a few of the things that helped make the film acquire a cult following of its own, with fans such as Courtney Love and the underground filmmaker Sarah Jacobson. If you haven't seen The Fabulous Stains, I urge you to hunt down a copy NOW.

The Filthiest People Alive

Some photos of me and the Mr at Sandra's John Waters themed birthday party at Stereo last weekend. We went as Connie and Raymond Marble from Pink Flamingos. We drew the line at bringing a couple of black market babies to sell. And a 'bowel movement' in a box.

Bowlie 2

This weekend I'm off to All Tomorrow's Parties, a.k.a Bowlie 2 at Butlins in Minehead, so expect no posts til next week! I'll be taking a camera so hopefully I'll have lots of nice photos of what we got up to (the good, bad and ugly). Here's a list of the various acts playing. I'm pissed off that I'll miss Best Coast because I only have a pass for the Saturday and Sunday. But I didn't have to pay for it, so mustn't grumble!

Pretty Pretty

Earlier this month, I styled a Barbarella-inspired photoshoot for the Glasgow Guardian. The model was the brilliant Christin Haussman and the photographer was Rosalind Blake. The location was the retro-futuristic Kibble Palace at Glasgow's Botanic Gardens. Here are a couple of my behind-the-scenes shots, watch out for the final edits in the next issue of the Glasgow Guardian (out now).

In the Company of Wolves

Just a few images I managed to get from standing on a table at the back. The hair and make-up team did a brilliant job again.

Halloween!

This is what me and the boyfriend went as on Halloween:

...and yes, I'd like him to keep the Bryan head on all the time! Er, just kidding.......

Zobop

This is relatively old news, but I just discovered it today:

Necklace by Matthew Williamson, inspired by the work of Glasgow artist Jim Lambie. Created as part of Williamson's collection for Atelier Swarovski and featured in his SS10 runway show.

Student Loan: Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.

Well I didn't end up buying ANYTHING from my previous post. It was that old chestnut of things looking great on t'internet and looking a bit crap IRL. Instead, I blitzed around the high street in record time (1 hour, thanks to dreary Glasgow weather and an inundation of University freshers making me not want to hang about too long) and got the following to kick-start my A/W wardrobe...

I'm especially chuffed with the skirt, from the teen section of New Look. Occasionally being petite has its perks, such as being able to fit into kids' clothes and not having to pay VAT. There's been a lot of bitching done about those animal hats from River Island, though I think the one getting the most flack is the panda hat which does look a bit daft. Mine has ears and pom pom things, but I think it errs more on the sassy, catwoman side than the twee, novelty side.
I also got a sheer leopard print onesie from good old H&M, but alas - no pictures on the interweb.

Les Garcons de Glasgow Offline

On Thursday night, style bloggers Les Garcons de Glasgow hosted another club event, this time at Stereo on Renfield Lane. With a friendly atmosphere, lil ol' me projected onto the walls, and great music provided by Kid Zipper (Menergy), Thunder Disco Club, and Matthew Craig from One More Tune/Cheap n Nasty, a ball was had by all.

Summer, 70s style

I picked up this gorgeous 1970s dress in Retro, a vintage shop in the West End of Glasgow, for only £30.

Feeling inspired by the print, I decided to do my nails to match...

I used Stargazer 122 as the background, then some Barry M Deep Orange, then some black and white nail pens for the pattern bits.

Chicks Who Smoke

I was recently alerted to this blog, Chicks Who Smoke. It concerns exactly that - women smoking. Lots of sexy black and white snaps of it. A celebration of the insouciant act that is constantly (and tediously) vilified by most of the press these days. Proof that no matter how bad something is for you, if you look good while doing it then it just don't matter none.

In the Company of Wolves

Showcasing designs by Anna Whyte, Boudiche, Che Camille, Corinne Robinson, Rachael Albert, Obscure Couture (website coming soon), Rowan Joy, Torres and Velvet Tigers.
I'd love to find out who was responsible for the hair and make-up, they were the highlight for me.

The event was hosted by the beautifully decorated Sub Club and organised by SE Events.
Sponsors included: L'Oreal, Bacardi, Sparklecandy, Tunnocks, MacSorley's, Sub Club, and The Coveted magazine. Thanks to these people, the goodie bags were brilliant!

I've also got to thank Rachel for sorting us out with tickets.
