Rebel Youth

Wish somebody'd buy me this book of photos by the late great Karlheinz Weinberger...

It looks insanely good - so much clothespiration/hairspo/eye candy.

Lady in Red

I stumbled upon this picture online (no idea who it is or who it's by)

but the hair & make-up and styling remind me of one of my all-time favourite style heroines, La Marchesa Casati:

although the colours remind me more of the Otto Dix (another favourite) painting of Anita Berber (ditto):

If anyone has any information about the origins of the top photograph, who it's by and whether it's part of a series - I'd love to see more - then please let me know! x Oh and Merry Yule/Happy New Year!

fuck yeah hair

Just found this article explaining how to get the Issa hairstyle!

ISSA

Time for another wordy post. I always get in the habit of updating with some pretty pictures when I can't think of anything to say, but I'll try and summon up some musings today.
Issa isn't a label I know very much about (but things gonna change) but when I was indulging in my main hobby of 'browsing internet for nice pix' I came across their A/W 2010 catwalk collection and boy is it ME all over..... Feast your eyes:

Red lips? Check. Oversized shades? Check. Shiny shiny leather? Check. The classic movie star-style headscarf scaffolded by the towering quiff is so perfect I could maybe squeeze out a small salty tear. At the moment I may be suffering a fringe but in the past I've always been a s.t.a.u.n.c.h devotee of the quiff/shades/lippie combination.

The 'Q/S/L' when combined with the black headscarf reminds me so much of fashion designer/writer/filmmaker/muse Diane Pernet. Her white skin and kabuki-style black mane set off by a veil and impenetrable shades hae become her trademark and made her an instant favourite of mine.

So, even though the end of Summer fills me with dread (even more so this year - this will be my last EVER 'school holiday' as I'm going into my last year at university. Next summer will be filled with the fear and loathing of having to get a job and enter the real world), the appearance of the A/W clothes in the shops never ceases to excite me. I'll be stocking up on headscarves, cape-like jackets, leather opera gloves and layering different textures of black in true goth fashion. I can't wait - and because I live in Scotland I probably WON'T have to wait very long.......

Til the next time I'm feeling verbally inclined! x

Mulberry A/W 2010

I'm always a sucker for big hair, especially hair that manages to defy gravity while still seeming soft and 'undone' (because I've found this is often the most difficult look to achieve). As well as the hair, another thing Mulberry have got right is the soft leather jackets with cute doll-like collars. The top photo pretty much sums up my ideal day-to-evening outfit. I need to find a pair of knee-high boots like those, and a jacket like the one in the third photo. Add some backcombing and a good hairspray and I'll be sorted for A/W. Maybe...

The young Priscilla Presley is my new hairspiration. If I could coax my hair into any form, colour or texture resembling hers circa her marriage to Elvis I'd be a happy woman. Sadly, as anyone who knows me can testify, my hair is fucked. BEYOND. Too many ill-advised home bleach jobs have left the entire top layer fried and no matter how many times I try to dye over it, it seems to remain a weird pale brown colour. Now with a flattering 3 inches of dark roots. The way I style it, it isn't too noticable and can almost pass for decent, but I know the hideous truth. I've been avoiding salon trips as I just KNOW the stylist will propose a Faustian pact of cutting it all off for the sake of a fresh start. Take my hair, take my soul. The sad fact of the matter is, I naturally have thick, glossy, dark brown hair, and if I had only left it alone I'd only be a bump-it away from Miss Beaulieu's do.

LIVE AND LEARN.

(On a serious note - has anyone tried these bump-it things? I need to know if they're worth investigating. I've read some pretty bad reviews and I don't fancy spending money on anything that's going to fuck with my follicles any more...)

Danielle Dax

I've wanted these eyeball rings for ages, anybody know where I can buy some? I used to have an eyeball necklace as a teenage goth, proof that you should NEVER throw anything out.

I wish I was old enough to dress like this in the 80s.

This is going to be my new look. GOLD LIPSTICK, gold everything.

I find the face on her shorts incredibly creepy, but aside from that everything is so right.

Summer, 70s style

I picked up this gorgeous 1970s dress in Retro, a vintage shop in the West End of Glasgow, for only £30.

Feeling inspired by the print, I decided to do my nails to match...

I used Stargazer 122 as the background, then some Barry M Deep Orange, then some black and white nail pens for the pattern bits.

In the Company of Wolves

Showcasing designs by Anna Whyte, Boudiche, Che Camille, Corinne Robinson, Rachael Albert, Obscure Couture (website coming soon), Rowan Joy, Torres and Velvet Tigers.
I'd love to find out who was responsible for the hair and make-up, they were the highlight for me.

The event was hosted by the beautifully decorated Sub Club and organised by SE Events.
Sponsors included: L'Oreal, Bacardi, Sparklecandy, Tunnocks, MacSorley's, Sub Club, and The Coveted magazine. Thanks to these people, the goodie bags were brilliant!

I've also got to thank Rachel for sorting us out with tickets.
